He specifically mentioned the passing of his friend Ed Asner in 2021, which sadly ended their hopes of remaking *The Odd Couple* together.

“We lost it,” Van Dyke said, expressing his sadness over missed opportunities and the many friendships he’s outlived.

His wife, Arlene Silver, 53, acknowledged the sorrow that often comes with longevity. “That’s the curse of living to almost 100,” she said. Yet despite the losses, she emphasized how positive Van Dyke remains.

When asked how he keeps his outlook so upbeat, the *Mary Poppins* star simply said, “Life’s been good to me. I can’t complain.”

Married since 2012, the couple shares a 46-year age gap but insists their relationship works because they genuinely care for one another. “Everyone said it wouldn’t work,” Van Dyke recalled, “but we just get along so well.”

His cheerful spirit is matched by his dedication to health—Van Dyke still goes to the gym three times a week and even dances between machines. His longtime friend Ted Danson recalled watching him move with energy and joy.

Earlier this year, Van Dyke faced danger when a fire threatened his Malibu home. Though the situation was serious, he escaped with help from neighbors, showing once again his resilience and grace in the face of challenges.
